Professor Murphy assumes that Jackie and I never do work in
his class. How rude. Of course she and I have our moments where we are talking
to each other and one of us tells a joke and our laughter gets the best of us,
but we are girls it is what we do! We do talk a little more than we should
while in class but we both end up turning in our assignments when needed to. I feel
we bring excitement into the class since it is a night class. Everyone is
basically yawning and falling asleep, our laughter and jokes is what keeps the
class going. When Jackie is not here, like today, I feel so bored and as if I have
no encouragement to get any work done and just want to go home. Students should
have friends in every class for their own personal person to go to when we need
some help with an assignment, or have any other questions on anything. Jackie is
my backbone. Mr. Murphy has personally told another friend of mine that he
believes I am a good student so I must be doing something right. Just saying
Mr. Murphy!

Customer Service
I have had my fair share of really bad and rude customers
since I previously worked at Little Caesar’s and am now working at Applebee’s.
At my old job, people would get crazy with me because our pizzas were not
always “hot and ready” as advertised. But what people did not understand, was
that if a person gives us no heads up or even a phone call that they wanted to
order 20 pizzas and just walks in and takes all that we had ready, now we were
left with none. We then had to hustle to get pizzas ready to sell so people
could buy them immediately instead of waiting. All of them were savages. I now
am a waitress so I handle customer service a bit differently now. I personally
have my own tables and make my own money. Some guests do give me attitude when
their food or drinks are taking too long, or if they do not like the taste of
them and just want everything for free. My managers often listen to them
because we have only been open for about 3 months. It does at times get on my
nerves how much people take advantage of us and just get stuff for free and do
not bother tipping us for all of our hard work of being on our feet all day
dealing with everything.
The Notebook
One of my favorite movies is called The Notebook. It is this
sweet romantic movie that brings me to tears every time I watch it. It touches
my heart because it makes me believe that true love really does exist. This
elderly woman has Alzheimer’s disease and lives in an elderly home. This man
visits her every day and reads her this love story from back in the day. Allie
and Noah are the names of the main characters and the love story is based off
of them. Allie was a rich young girl visiting only for the summer and Noah was
a poor town guy who fell in the love with her the moment he saw her. After they
separated and Allie went back to school, they both eventually met other people
and fell in love. Meanwhile, the older woman was trying to remember what
happens next. And it turns out that the older couple was actually Noah and
Allie. To make a long story short, after ending their relationships with the
others they fell back in love and got married and had kids. Unfortunately, once
Allie remembered it was her and Noah, she freaked out and forgot all about it. They
both ended up in the hospital together and died holding each other in their
sleep.
Jersey Shore
I am currently watching Jersey Shore on MTV. I remember this
show was so popular my freshman year of high school. My friends and I were so
into the show every week when it premiered and couldn't wait to talk about it
with each other when we went back to school. I guess I just like reality tv too
much and get a bit too into it as if I were them in their shoes and that is
weird to me. The show was about some outgoing and crazy people who loved
partying and getting drunk and just basically made a show about it. They got
paid for being themselves but some episodes were too much sometimes and could
obviously tell that it was kind of fixed for a crazy episode and it ended up
not being that great. The women in that show would act really inappropriate
most of time and always end up in arguments with one another which is sad to
see how they represented women at the time. The guys were pretty gross always
messing around with every girl which showed me that both genders can be pigs. Hopefully
all of the stars of the show have changed and done something better with their
lives.

English strengths and weaknesses
I believe my strengths in English are writing essays and any other writing assignments. Anytime my teacher assigns a writing project I feel as if I could write non-stop for hours and hours if I am interested with the topic. No offense, but sometimes I get assigned some boring subjects where I am dragging my hand to continue writing just to finish. I believe that I am so open minded which helps me write assignments. When given a situation for a topic, I try to not take one side of the argument and see from both point of views which helps me write better.

Music
I enjoy
listening to music every day. It is a stress reliever from coming home from
work and school and just laying down listening to some relaxing music. Every
song made has to have a message, so at times when I am having a bad day, I have
a force of habit to look into finding a song that could brighten up my mood. A
fast, up-beat song usually does the trick for me. Music also helps me get into
the mood of finishing my homework and doing my chores. If it is too quite while
I am trying to do my homework, I get easily bored and get distracted and start
to doze off and completely forget about everything. When I am playing music, I
enjoy singing along with it when doing homework. Not to mention, it keeps me
focused on what I am doing so I won’t get distracted. Surprisingly, I enjoy
listening to rap when doing homework. To me, rap always comes in an important message
that not all people could understand. It could bring up love, life struggles,
world crises, etc. I try my best to listen closely what the rapper is trying to
get across towards their audience.

Social Media
I feel as if
social media has taken over our generations’ lives. Many people seem to think
they cannot live without it. Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat, etc. are
just a few apps that are used every day by people who could possibly become
helpless without logging into them for a whole day. I believe that people turn
to those websites as they become bored and feel the need to talk to somebody or
look at something interesting. People often think they will only be on the
website for about five minutes, but as entertainment and news online become
more fascinating, those five minutes could become a half hour. These social
media accounts of mine definitely distract me from my homework because I have
that thought of only looking at them for five minutes but then get so behind
and lose track of time. I always try to convince myself to delete all of my social
media accounts and try to focus more on school and my job like I should be, but
I feel like keeping these accounts is what keeps me connected to my friends and
family and keeps me in the loop as to what is happening with everyone. Maybe
one day, I will actually have the guts to go with my instinct and let go of my
accounts.

College Money Issues
I
always knew beginning college was going to cost money, and a lot of it. It was
something I always heard while growing up. I tried my best in school to be able
to help myself pay for college by getting scholarships but that isn't always
going to cover everything. Honestly, I am so grateful that my financial aid
money helps me out so much! It was an annoying process to go through with the
office with needed documents and constant phone calls for them, but I am glad
that this helps my mom and I so much. The only downside from receiving
financial aid money, is how long you have to wait to be able to get the money.
For instance, all COD students are currently in their third week for the spring
semester, and are barely receiving the financial aid money. It would have been
very helpful to have received the money before the semester began or towards
the beginning when the professors announce what textbooks and materials are
needed for their class. It tremendously stressed me out and now owe a couple of
IOU’s. College textbook prices are what get to me the most. Why must books that
are supposed to educate us be so expensive? It isn’t our fault that we just
want to expand our education. Renting books are a bit easier but are still too
pricy, mostly because I am very cheap. All in all, I am blessed to be helped
out with what I receive. Beggars cannot be choosers.
Learning from Mistakes
This
semester completes my first year of college. I have to say, it has been a
roller coaster so far. I thought it was going to be similar to high school
where you can get away with pretty much anything. If you missed a class, you
could easily get caught up and convince your teacher to turn in late
assignments without docking off points. When in college, if you miss a class,
your whole life is now off track. It is now your responsibility to get caught
up and turn in those late assignments, minus however many points your professor
decides to dock from you. I really miss that from high school. Now that I look
at it, it was wrong of the teachers to allow the students to get away with late
assignments. It personally made me unprepared for college because of how I got
in the force of habit of turning in late assignments and getting full credit
for them, so when I tried the same technique for college, my professor looked
at me with such a confused face and laughed. I wish my high school teachers
would have gotten into that technique of treating their students the way they
were treated in college so that way I wouldn't have gone through that
embarrassing moment with my professor. At least now, I can learn from my
mistakes.
